Vietnam veterans deal with a variety of health issues as they age, some of which, unfortunately, may be the result of their service.
As such, the VA is now examining whether it should broaden health care benefits to include issues like bladder cancer, hypothyroidism, symptoms associated with Parkinson’s, and more, all of which could be the result their time overseas.
But first the VA will study the correlation between tours of duty in Vietnam and these health risks. The department should come to a conclusion by August.
If the VA confirms that serious medical conditions were a direct result of time spent in Vietnam, it would be a huge boon to many veterans. They would be eligible to receive help to pay for the necessary treatments that they may not have been able to afford on their own.
