Hello, and welcome back to our series on tips for firefighter families. Part 1 discussed the importance of setting a regular schedule and making time for your family. Here are some additional tips to keep your family strong through the daily challenges of your job.
Communication is the best thing you can do for your family. If you’re feeling tired or stressed, let your spouse and kids know. They’ll be more than happy to accommodate you. If you’re experiencing post-traumatic stress, seek counseling. The more you communicate what you’re going through, the less stressful it will be on you and your family.
It’s also helpful to maintain a flexible personality. Sometimes the responsibilities that come with your job will get in the way of family plans. Whether it be an interrupted Thanksgiving dinner or a canceled date night, it’s easiest if everyone keeps an understanding mindset.
Thanks for watching!
